STATEMENT
Anders Brinch works with both total abstraction as well as figurative elements in a surprisingly varied gathering of materials and approaches, ranging from oil on canvas to ready-made objects, plaster, plants, and sound. However, whether he works on the canvas or on a three dimensional installation, one should not see these as confined genres in a classical way, but rather as accumulations or mixtures wherein new combinations, expressions and shapes are born. His choice of topics derives from personal experiences that he fearlessly allows presence in his work in which levels from emotional pain to ecstatic joy can be traced.
The themes and emotions treated in different paintings and sculptural works can be seen in unison, as fragments or building blocks of a unified whole; of everyday life. However, it is noticeable that it is presented in a form that defies the unity, definition and the recognizable of everyday life. As it is, the form reaches far beyond the surrounding profane and into an aesthetically experienced art form. And perhaps it is this tension between the everyday-ish and the thoroughly worked-through, reflected and complicated artistic expression, which is played out in the artistic practice of Brinch, which causes general questions about history and memory to arise.
